2022 Annual Report
OUR THEORY OF CHANGE
The voices and expertise of young people are often excluded in decision-making in our communities and in government.
Mikva Challenge engages young people – in particular, young people from historically marginalized communities – in programming that develops a new generation of active, empathetic civic leaders.
These young people become adults who build a more just, inclusive, and equitable society…
At Mikva Challenge, we develop youth to be empowered, informed, and active citizens who will promote a just and equitable society.
LETTER FROM VERNEÉ
“Change can be many things: thrilling and challenging; overwhelming and exciting. But, as we continue navigating through this period of transition, I am reminded constantly that change is progress. Because, at its heart, Mikva’s work is transformational.”
We support youth as they articulate solutions and take action to address the issues impacting them.
We cultivate connections and a sense of community between youth and adult leaders.
And, we increase the ability of educators to create democratic communities and classrooms.
Mikva By The Numbers
Social-emotional skills include self-efficacy, self-management, positive identity, and contribution skills. These skills result in young people who know who they are and how they can make a difference in their community.
Civic attitudes are skills that help us build better communities such as agency, compassion, perseverance, inclusivity and respect.
